Properties :
Nonencapsulated. Secretes protein A due to mutations in the sortase A promoter. Used as producer of alpha-toxin by Statens Serum Institut for several years. Harbors a class 2 ccr gene complex but methicillin sensitive.
Phenotype :
Resistant to cadmium, mercury, arsenate, and copper. Fully susceptible to antibiotics.
