Also known as Crooks strain or Gunsalus strain for being able to reduce dehydroascorbic acid. Used in both American Pharmacopeia and European Pharmacopoeias. Quality control strain for testing the efficiency of antimicrobial agents. It has an insertion element within ompC, and thus only expresses ompF as the major outer membrane porin. Its complete genome sequence (CP000956) is available.
