This is a 8325-4 strain derivative, free of prophages, restriction mechanisms and capsules. Used as recipient in conjugation and transformation experiments. Reduced ability to produce staphyloxanthin due to a 11 bp deletion in the rsbU gene. Strong beta-hemolysin producer. Attenuated virulence.
